Today we had ELECTIONS
Today we had VALG on a trip with a small group of children. We had to choose which fairy tale we were going to work on and the choice was between 3 different fairy tales that we have read this week.
The children lined up outside the polling station (a play stand with a blanket in front to avoid visibility). Here they had to say their name to the adult on duty. She had a list of everyone who was allowed to vote. The child was registered and given a voting block (duplo block) to take with him to the polling station. There was a new guard who explained how to vote. There was only one child at a time in the polling station so as not to influence each other's choices.
The voting block was to be placed on the adventure they liked best and wanted to work on. When the child had finished voting, the vote was recorded and taken away so that it would not affect the next child.
Afterwards we counted votes (duplo blocks) and found out which adventure had the most votes.
The framework plan says, among other things:
The children's participation in the day-to-day life of the nursery lays the foundation for further insight into and experience with participation in a democratic society.
Through work with the local environment and society, the nursery school shall contribute to the children being encouraged to participate in their own everyday life and develop confidence in participating in society.
