How about a little drama stunt. Here the caterpillar is inside and teaches the children about the metamorphosis - first with a bit of humorous drama, then with a film.
Then there is room for the children to dramatize... be a caterpillar, pupa and butterfly. Nice to end by making butterflies, e.g. from coffee filters.
